Here's how to get started: Sit in your BMW and navigate to Navigation Maps. Press the Options button and go to Settings. Select Position & Version History > Version Information.

Now, here's the key: If your software version starts with P, Q, R, S, U, V, W, X, or Y, unfortunately, USB coding won't work. You'll need to choose the cable coding version. For versions starting with any letter preceding P (in alphabetical order), both USB and cable coding are applicable.

If cable coding is required you'll need an ENET coding cable and a Windows laptop with at least Windows 10 operating system for the process.
